Just went into the Park to go up the lookout tower, and it's a really neatly built tower with a nice view. West Virginia State Parks are GREAT!
If time allows head over to the Pearl S. Buck historical home and museum in Hillsboro about 10 minutes away. It’s incredible and well worth the detour! It’s a guided tour, so allow some time to get through all three floors of this small but historically important home.
Along those roads were signs depicting the main events of the Droop Mountain Battle. Unless there is someone behind you, slow to read it or take a picture to read it later.
Beautiful view. It's only 5 miles away from Beartown which is another neat WV place.
The best park with the nicest staff an a public wach tower with an un ubstructed veiw so you can see everything
The view from the Observation Tower on a clear day is incredible. An easy climb to the top, there are no signs once you’re there to tell you what you are looking at (some direction or map would have been nice, especially for those not from WV). Other than the view, and a small picnic area, there’s not much here.
From the main highway you’ll head towards the visitors center (you’ll see the cannon) and from there veer right and downhill down a very narrow single-lane width road heading towards the Observation Tower.
View from the tower is very nice. Picnic spots and clean restrooms. Nicely managed!
